Kutch to Ladakh

A Design Education Workshop was organized in October 2021 in Hemya village of the Ladakh region (approx. 80 kilometers from Leh). The idea was to provide introductory inputs in design education to the women artisans so that they can innovate within their traditional craft. 27 women artisans from the Rong tribe of Hemya village participated in the design education workshop. The participants worked as part of two self-help women's groups, whereas Backstrap looms, on the contrary, are still practiced by the women seasonally. A collection of designs is being produced by the women for a display and sale in the exhibition.
