Mukesh’s family were originally from Mudan. They wove cotton textiles for local clients. Mukesh’s grandfather Samathbhai won the state award. in 1990. His father Naranbhai won the Sant Kabir award in 2009, and his uncle Kanthibhai won the National award in 1997. Mukesh learned weaving from his father during his school days and has been weaving for since 2005. He has travelled throughout India selling his products.

All households require woven material in some form, Mukesh says. So, progress depends a lot on weaving. Market demand for weaving has increased. But with industries being established in Kutch, the number of artisans has dwindled.

Mukesh wants to popularize weaving, as well as start his own brand and travel abroad.

In 2012, he graduated from Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya, and received the award for Best Presentation.

Mukeshbhai’s collection of jackets was well appreciated.
