Abdul Vahab Khatri was born and brought up in Bhuj city. He belongs to the Khatri community which is famous for its craftsmanship and enterprising spirit. Abdul Vahab’s father is a businessman who has a shop in Bhuj.

However, Vahab and his brother are engaged with traditional Bandhani. His brother learned the art from their brother-in-law and established their bandhani unit in Bhuj. Later on, Vahab joined him

Even though he didn’t inherit his art from his father, Vahab feels that his art is his identity.
He says, “I am highly satisfied by the opportunity to create new designs on my own. This is my identity now.”

Vahab believes that the market is the key to survival of the art, and that the market understands Kutchi tradition.

In 2008, he studied design at Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya. He graduated with the award for Most Promising Artisan.

Soon after graduating, Vahab launched a new idea of combining bandhani with block print, which emerged from his design education experience. It was a great hit, and today is still popular.

Vahab has gone on to develop sophisticated, fine collections, and has created a successful business.

In 2016, he was selected to participate in an exhibition in Sri Lanka with Dastkari Haat Samiti.

"I am highly satisfied by the opportunity to create new designs on my own. This is my identity now."
